Gulf Shrimp & Blue Crab Linguine

EEEEeeeeek! This is how happy blue crab makes me..

And this is how happy pasta makes Bowen 🙂

Toss them together with some heavy cream and fresh tomatoes and you’ve got a match-made in heaven

The second day we were at the beach mom took off to Billy’s Seafood in Bon Secour for fresh blue crabs. Eating blue crabs in my family is a tradition thats been passed down for lots of years. My aunt and mom talk about growing up watching their mom catch blue crabs on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

When we were little and would take our trip to Ft Morgan my mimi would go with us and we always had blue crabs, I’ve loved them for all my life and they still are my favorite thing in the world to eat.

Would you believe this year we couldn’t eat all the crabs we got so we picked out the lump crab meat and made pasta with fresh shrimp, heavy cream and the best summer tomatoes.

Shrimp & Blue Crab Linguine

1/4 c. sliced shallots

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 T olive oil

1 1/2 c fresh chopped tomatoes

1-2 T fresh basil, chopped or torn

1/3 c. heavy cream

1/2 lb shrimp, peeled & deveined ( & butterflied)

1/2 lb lump crabmeat, picked for shells

1/3 c. basil, chiffonade

1/3 c. fresh parmesan (to top)

pinch of red pepper flakes

What you do: In a large skillet, sauté shallots and garlic in olive oil until soft and fragrant. Add tomatoes and 1-2 fresh chopped basil and simmer for a few minutes. Add cream and bring to boil until slightly thickened. Add shrimp and red pepper, simmer until shrimp turn pink. Turn off heat and add in blue crab, linguine and chiffonade of basil. Serve with fresh parmesan and cracked pepper. Enjoy! Let me know if you make this dish, send me a picture and I will share with followers!
